In MYC, students meet in small groups, in their own age category, once a week for an hour, accompanied by an adult (parent, grandparent or caregiver) who participates in the program.

The program lasts from three to five years, depending on the age of the child, with each year typically consisting of 30-36 lessons.  At the end of the program, students are prepared for Grade 1 Royal Conservatory Exams and have late elementary or early intermediate level piano performance and theory!

The MYC programs are:

• Sunrise  (ages 2 1/2 - 4)  These classes include rhythm instruments, singing, games, puppets, stories and much more!  It is an exciting and innovative pre-school music program that helps children develop listening awareness, fine motor skills, attention span, and social skills. 

• Sunshines (ages 3 & 4)  This program includes large muscle movements in beat and rhythms as well as refining fine motor experiences in rhythm instrument ensemble playing. By the end of the first year Sunshines are playing C major and middle C positions, and reading from the staff.

• Sunbeams (ages 5 & 6)   Vocabulary development is the focus for this age group- at this stage we introduce big kid lyrics to introduce concepts, finger numbers, and keyboard geography.  Songs and games are used to reinforce listening.

• Moonbeams (ages 7, 8 and 9).  Moonbeams want “quick results” and the songs, ensembles and keyboard repertoire are designed to support their growing sense of independence. The listening activities for this age group keep the “ears open” even as reading becomes the primary focus for gathering information.

• My Choice:  (ages 10 - 13)  Parent participation is not required for inclusion in this class but parents are always welcome to attend. Students are responsible for keeping track of practice time and completing practice assignments. The course is designed to cater to the specific needs of this age group mixing fun activities with a more grown up approach to the lesson structure.

• Music Your Best Choice (teen / adult) This is an exciting music program for teens and adults that incorporates singing, rhythm, ear training keyboard/piano, composing and theory.  It is a fun & relaxing atmosphere and perfect for all those that "always wanted to learn"
